Fall 2011 trip to the Hoosac Tunnel
The plan:
Black Friday, 2011 a group of 5 headed into the Hoosac Tunnel, accomplishing this described plan except for any time in the "false start". We hiked a total of about 5 miles. Note: walking on train tracks is not fun but exploring the tunnel was. Note 2: the tunnel is DIRTY. Even if you don't touch anything you WILL be covered in black "soot" from the train smoke.
We entered the tunnel early in the afternoon and left early evening. In our time in there we saw 4 trains which were loud and dirty. We did not encounter any ghosts but still really enjoyed experiencing this piece of history. The spiedies cooked in our very own hobo camp were delicious. Pictures below:

- Locate and explore the east portal's "false start"
- Head into the east portal of the Hoosac Tunnel
- Hang out with ghosts
- Walk to and explore the "Central Shaft"
- Somewhere in the tunnel, cook and eat Spiedies for lunch
- Head back to our temporary home at Whitcomb Summit
