Plan is to head here late next week prior to the Christmas holiday weekend.
Here is what the Northeastern Cave Conservancy has to say about this area:
"Bentleys Karst Preserve was donated by Mr and Mrs Bentley in fall of 2009. The preserve is situated on top of a hill in Berlin, NY and consists of about 5 acres.
The largest of the caves is Bentley's Cavern with approximately 1000 feet of passage. The entrance to the cave is in the edge of a small cliff, and opens into a large passageway with a tall ceiling. The passageway terminates into a low crawl where a stream enters the cave.
Dry Valley Cave was discovered in 1991.
Access to the caves requires no special permission. Visitors are simply asked to sign in and out at the register near the parking area. For all caves standard caving gear is required. "
Directions: Kiosk parking off the west side of Route 22, south of the village of Berlin, a steep gravel drive. A blazed yellow trail leads to the caverns with the peak beyond.
